Colon cleansing also known as Colon Hydrotherapy and commonly called a Colonic.


The main functions of the colon are threefold:

• To absorb water and vitamins/electrolytes from indigestible food matter.

• To accept and store food remains that were not digested in the small intestine.

• To eliminate solid waste (feces) from the body.


The colon contains nearly 60 varieties of micro flora or bacteria to aid digestion, promote vital nutrient production, to maintain pH (acid-base) balance, and to prevent proliferation of harmful bacteria.


I am I-Act certified in both open and closed system and trained on bodywork and trigger points that can be applied to assist easier releases. With Colon cleansing the entire large intestine can be cleansed and the therapeutic benefits are much greater than those achieved with an enema.




Equipment:

At Pure Living KC, our foremost priority is your health. We are the only colonic center in Greater Kanas City Area to offer the FDA-registered Angel of Water colon hydrotherapy system, to provide the safest and most hygienic colonic irrigation experience available. Our colon hydrotherapy equipment maintains the water temperature between 99 and 103 degrees — the optimal range for effective intestinal cleansing.


Water flows through a carbon filter, which removes any sediment, rust or chlorine. The water is then purified again, by an Ultra Violet purification system, before it enters the body. It’s slightly warmed before being gravity-fed down to the base unit where the client is comfortably reclined and draped. The water is temperature-controlled, purified and carefully introduced into the body via the rectal tube. The tube stays in place throughout the treatment, held there by the sphincter muscles, while water and feces release naturally around it. Waste then flows into a well beneath your bottom and out to the sewerage system. The device has a viewing tube so you can see what is coming out of your system. An odor exhaust fan ensures the session room remains odor free.



The Session:

Colon Cleansing is a gentle cleansing of the large intestine. At Pure Living KC I use state-of-the-art FDA registered Angle of Water devices. The client lies on a basin connected to a Colon Cleansing device, with a new disposable rectal nozzle, while water gently circulates into the colon. When slight pressure builds up in the colon, the water can release. As water is flowing out through an illuminated glass viewing tube, the client can view their elimination. This process is repeated during the approximately 35-45 minute session. To ensure maximum sanitation, we use a new disposable rectal nozzle for each client. Clients wear gowns for privacy, ease and comfort during the session.


Colon Cleansing’s main strength is hydration and can impact the whole digestive system. Almost anyone can benefit from internal cleansing. Most people feel great after their session; others may feel differently according to what they have eliminated. It can be compared to deep cleaning a house…what was hidden? These effects can vary from person to person and is normally of short duration. I can give more information for each personal experience.


Before a Session:

• The days before the appointment eat as many water content foods as possible, examples: raw and cooked green leafy vegetables, raw vegetable drinks and whole grains. This will start hydrating the colon to ease your experience.

• Try to cut down on all processed foods, examples: white flour products, cheese, dried foods, greasy foods and sugar. These foods have a tendency to dehydrate the colon and can make the experience more challenging.

• Avoid eating 2 hours before the colon hydrotherapy appointment.

• Avoid drinking liquids 1 hour before. It can make your bladder full during the colon hydrotherapy session.

• Avoid all diuretic foods one day prior to your appointment, including; coffee, tea or soda. These can dehydrate and also make the bladder full.


After a Session:

• It is best to eat light foods that are easy on the digestive system, example; steamed vegetables, soup and light protein (fish, chicken, tofu…), avoiding nuts, salads and icy foods and drinks, since the colon just exercised.

• Drink more water to continue hydrating.

• Adding 1 tbsp. of chlorophyll or ¼ tsp. pink salt to your water will help absorption.

• Adding 2 tbsp. of lemon or 1 tbsp. of apple cider vinegar in your water can help alkalinize.

• Days following the session should be filled with vegetables (raw and steamed), soup, fruits, whole grains and pure water (not tap). Salads and raw foods have great enzymes and fiber.

• For better health, avoid anything processed, bottled or canned; sugar, pasteurized dairy and all whites/starches (sugar, flour, rice).

• A nutritionist can create a detailed plan for you.


How Many Sessions Do You Need?

For people that have never had a colonic, or if it has been a long time since your last colonic, most people choose a series of 3 or 4 in a 7 to 10 day period. Depending on each individual’s challenges and health goals, more or fewer sessions may be needed. The main goal with Colon Cleansing sessions is to hydrate and eliminate waste to achieve a clean colon. It is rare that this is achieved in a single session. On the first session, the body will experience hydration and sometimes little waste material comes out. The result may depend on several factors including the ability of the body to relax, the health condition of the colon, diet and water intake to name a few. Knowing that the length of the colon is approximately 5.5 feet in length, in most people it may take a few sessions to allow full hydration and better elimination

Ionic Foot Bath

Our body is challenged by an increase of chemicals creating more auto-immune disease, allergies and common infections. Toxins and chemicals can get stored in the body’s joints, organs, arteries, nerves and tissues, disrupting their ability to function and thus creating an environment for disease, allergies and immune system breakdown. Some researchers have found that most toxins (mucus, fat, Candida, heavy metals, parasites and various bacteria) are positively charged when they reside in the body and, attracted to the negative field of the ionic foot bath water, exit through the approximate 2000 pores in the feet. These are not proof of any particular ailment or condition, rather it is a cleansing process.


The Session:

The client sits in a calm quiet room with their feet immersed in a small tub of water with a device emitting special electrical currents to create negative ions in the water. Once the session ends the client rinses their feet and can go on with their normal day or to a different session of their choice.


Before the Session:

• Avoid drinking liquids 1 hour before. It can make your bladder full while your feet are in the water.

• Avoid all diuretic foods prior to your appointment, including; coffee, tea and soda. These can dehydrate you and also make your bladder full.


After a Session:

• You may feel relaxed for a few hours after your appointment.

• You might have more volume when you urinate. It may possibly have a stronger smell and different color and be foamy or filmy.

• It is important to drink more water than normal to assist the cleansing.


How Many Sessions Do You Need?

Ionic foot baths can be taken every other day to help a congested system. It can also be taken as needed or as desired for prevention or relaxation. Precautions:

The Session:

Each client is in a personal sauna where they remove all clothing and jewelry. They enter the personal sauna that includes relaxing music, a glass of purified water and a damp facecloth. People that have problems with heat can reduce the temperature by opening the door and can use the damp cloth to cool down. The goal is to relax and enjoy.


Before the Session:

• Avoid lotions and creams that clog the pores before your sauna session. These can inhibit the skin’s task of perspiration and waste removal.

• Avoid a large meal, the infrared sauna session may interfere with proper digesting.

• Avoid all diuretic foods prior to your appointment, including; coffee, tea and soda.


After the Session:

• Clients often feel relaxed for several hours after the appointment.

• Replenishing the body with electrolytes (calcium, magnesium, sodium…) is important. Using ¼ teaspoon of Pink salt or supplements with electrolytes in water can help.

• It is important to drink more water then you normally do to assist the cleansing.

• Each day a new layer of skin replaces the old. Dry-brushing the skin for five to ten minutes with a natural fiber brush removes dead skin cells and stimulates the circulatory and lymphatic systems between sauna sessions.


How often can I use the Sauna?

As often as you would like to. Once a week is good and daily is fine. The sauna eases tension, stiffness, pain and safely burns calories, without moving a muscle. Be sure to drink plenty of water before, during and after the sauna session to replenish lost fluids and minerals.

Reflorastation

We have learned that disease can also be considered 'dis-ease', which is not necessarily illness but perhaps a lack of energy, vitality and comfort within our bodies. So, what is the 'dis' of disease? The origins of the word comes from Old French where the 'dis' represents a reversal or the lack of something. In this regard, it means the lack or reversal of 'ease'. So, how do we drop the 'dis' and get ourselves back to the 'ease'? Well, through my many years of clinical work, I have happened upon this useful acronym, DIS, to illustrate the vital factors that contribute to dropping the 'dis' and keeping us in 'ease'.

"D" stands for digestion, which is our fuel source. The foods we consume including our vitamins, minerals and other supplements make up our fuel. So let's take a look at what foods we are consuming to propel our bodies forward. Clean and fresh is best! We can even make successful selections when eating out if we follow a motto of clean and fresh is best! When we're wandering around the grocery store, let's stay on the outside areas where the fresh foods are: produce such as fruits and vegetables, proteins in our meats and seafood, those items that have a short shelf life. The longer a product can stay on the shelf, whether at the store or in our pantry, the less vitality it contains to provide the nutrients we each need.

Another component of digestion is our stomach and intestines' ability to actually break down our foods into absorbable parts. This is where chewing becomes important as the saliva in our mouth actually starts the digestive process. Then the stomach secretes acids and pepsin to digest proteins and fats. Once the partially digested food moves into the small intestine, we need the pancreatic enzymes to continue with the breakdown of carbohydrates and sugars.


If there is discomfort during the 60 to 90 minutes after eating, our system might need some additional support. Making a decision about supplements is best done with the direction of a health practitioner. You may need enzymes, Hydrochloric Acid, or even ox bile. There are many brands, products and varieties to choose from, so be sure your selection is based on evaluation of your needs. There are also more effective times to take each of these, so become an educated consumer.

The final process of digestion is elimination. While we think of the large intestine or colon as the body's "trash can", it has many more functions than that. When there is a healthy microbiome (environment of the colon) numerous processes occur. Our colon manufactures B12 and vitamin K, it absorbs nutrients that might have not been absorbed in the small intestine, binds to wastes and toxins so that they are not reabsorbed, reclaims moisture so we don't dehydrate, and also reclaims bile, which is recirculated for protein digestion at our next meal.


WOW! There's a lot happening here.

Many of us have elimination problems; constipation, which is too slow, or irritable bowels, which is too fast. Perhaps there is excessive gas and bloating, which increases our dis-ease. The ideal transit time (from eating to elimination) is just under 24 hours. If these elimination problems are disruptive to our lives, we should consider reflorastation, which is the repopulating of our colon with healthy probiotics (at least twice a year), and the most efficient and effective method is rectally. Application is easy and simple to do. I personally feel this is a much better and safer method than fecal transplant. When we take probiotics by mouth, most are destroyed by the digestive juices. When we do them rectally, they are all delivered immediately. I pioneered this method in the early 1990s with amazing success. As of today, I've administered over 40,000 treatments.


The reason this is so important is the "I" of disease. This stands for the immune system. At least 70% of our immune system is in the intestines. The small intestine is 22 feet long and the large intestine is 5 feet long. So, digestion and immunity walk hand in hand. By keeping the digestive system working well we will automatically have a stronger immune system.

About Us

I’m not one to talk about myself, nor talk in third person, but I know if you are here, you want to know about me, so here goes.


Growing up I was always an active kid, I played all sports and loved riding my quarter horse “Storm”. In college I received a tennis scholarship and played college fast pitch softball, I also enjoyed skiing when I could. Fortunately, for the most part, I made it through my college sports career without a major injury.


After college I stayed as active as I could, since my job had me working behind a desk. While I was skiing, I had a bad fall and did significant damage to my right knee. I ended up needing major surgery and the rehabilitation back then was difficult. I didn’t know until later in life that it would be the start of my health problems.


Years later and after multiple surgeries I got caught in a cycle of trial and error. I was willing to try anything to get back to where I was in my youth and I used the medical field approach for years with no luck. I was willing to try every anti-inflammatory medication, steroids, rooster cartilage injections and pain medication, but nothing helped. All of this caused more trouble in my body. Over time I saw Doctors, DO’s, Chiropractors, acupuncture specialists, naturopaths, massage therapists, exercise therapists, and rehab therapists. Whatever they told me to do, I did it. There was a period during this entire process where I’d find some new approach through either a supplement or cream, you name it, and I’d try it. I read everything and anything trying to rebuild my knee. It got so bad that just normal everyday activities like climbing a set of steps caused me problems. The only exercise I could do without pain or my knee swelling was water aerobics. I couldn’t work out in the yard or take long walks without incurring substantial knee swelling which would set me back. During that time, I sought the opinion of several different Orthopedic Surgeons. Each of them had the same diagnosis, I needed a knee replacement, but I should try and get by until I was a little older. Today I feel very blessed that I was too young.


I had worked my entire adult life in the computer networking field, and it was getting harder and harder to perform my day to day tasks. By this time, I had a great massage therapist named Gwen who specialized in Myofascial release. My normal work week was comprised of four ten-hour days and every Friday I had a set appointment with Gwen, which allowed me to feel good enough to work the next week. I was also working with a DO and a naturopath on detoxing and trying to rebuild my torn down body. By then I was old enough to have a knee replacement, but the more I researched the more unsure I became. During my research, I discovered that many people in my situation were having success utilizing stem cell treatments. The procedure was less invasive, and the recovery was much faster. The procedure was not part of the mainstream, and as a result, it was difficult to find doctors that had experience in the field. I settled on a doctor in Los Angeles, and though it was expensive, it was within a budget I could live with. Before I had the procedure, I asked my Orthopedic Surgeon if he would follow my treatments and progress. If the procedure didn’t work as I’d hoped, he would then have the honor of replacing both of my knees. Needless to say, he wasn’t encouraging. In fact, he flat out told me nothing short of a knee replacement would solve my problem. I never saw him again.


I did several detox’s lost some weight and headed off to Los Angeles to see Dr. Martin. In 2012 I had my first stem cell treatment, and a year later, I was climbing Machu Picchu in Peru. REALLY! I retired from my career in Network Computing and devoted my professional life to understanding my body and what else I could do to get healthy. You see, I still had issues, as doctors had me on and off Bioidentical hormones. Plus, I was having issues with sleep, weight and digestion, to name a few. After months of research and learning, I made the decision to learn Colon Hydro therapy. I enrolled in a full course program to become a Colon Hydro Therapist and eventually purchased by own equipment and started a practice.


The journey started in Santa Monica where I received my initial training that lead me to full certification and earning a license. However, I still wanted to understand the missing pieces. So many wonderful and knowledgeable people had worked with me, that included a good friend named Diane, who was a nurse and a health practitioner. She explained to me about FDN (Functional Diagnostic Nutrition) promoted by a person named Reed Davis. I started out with his small mini course and then dove right into a full program which included many advanced courses. During that time, I have been my own patient and applied many of the tests to my own situation. Once I was comfortable with the knowledge offered through the program, I asked family members to work with me. I have had the opportunity learn from many wonderful teachers in the field, Dr. Lisa Pomeroy, Dr. Brian Walsh and Dr. Carrie Jones. Through the success I was able to achieve with myself and my family, I decided to start a practice in FDN. As far as my own health is concerned, I can’t say I’m 100% pain free, but I can say that my knees rarely swell and I’m able to take long walks and do hot yoga 3-5 times a week. I’m an avid gardener and spend hours a week in my yard working. My hormones are under control, digestion under control, weight is down and most of all my overall stress levels and quality of life have improved dramatically. I feel so blessed to have a husband and family who have believed and supported me through this journey and have let me use them as test clients while I was learning. As a bonus, I have watched them improve their health in the process.
